The takeoff and/or landing of a drone in Sunriver is prohibited (Sunriver Rules & Regulations Section 5.05) without prior written approval by the Sunriver Owners Association AND the Sunriver Airport. With approval, drone flights related to real estate, marketing, etc. are generally permitted.
Flights for personal/recreational use are usually not allowed to maintain the peace and privacy of those living or visiting the community. If you want to fly for recreational use there are plenty of areas outside the boundaries of Sunriver.
- Please plan flight accordingly to allow for a minimum of 72 business hours (Monday through Friday) for your application to move through the review process.
Submittal steps & application forms
- Fill out the following application forms (yes, there are 2). To ensure a speedy process, please get approval on the airport form BEFORE submitting it to SROA.

AND
• SROA Drone Flight Permit Application (online fillable form) - Submit the completed Sunriver Airport Permit Application to airport management via email (fbo@sunriverfbo.com) for review and approval.
- Once approved, email the Sunriver Airport Permit Application to SROA for review to shaec@srowners.org.
- SROA will review both applications and respond with approved and/or denied status. Please keep a copy of your approved applications on site during the scheduled drone flight(s) in case you receive a "visit" from Sunriver Police.
Sunriver Drone Rules
- Sunriver Rules & Regulations (Section 5.05) regarding drone flights: Except as permitted by the SROA General Manager, the takeoff/landing of unmanned aircraft, including but not limited to aerial drones, is prohibited in Sunriver.
- Violation of this rule constitutes a Class A offense ($2,500 fine).
sUAS Flight Plan Review Requirements Critical to Aviation Safety

- Prior coordination and authorization is required for all unmanned aerial system (UAS) takeoff/landings within five nautical miles of the Sunriver Airport.
- Only sUAS under 55 pounds will be considered. Drone pilots must be licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration, using a Registered and Marked UAS and MUST present a specific flight plan to the airport managers 48-72 hours in advance.
- All flights must be line-of-sight in daylight only.
- Applicants must present a proposed flight plan, location on Sunriver map showing specific flight path. This is a maximum 2,000’ from base, maximum 400’ AGL dependent on aircraft traffic pattern. After review, the airport manager may authorize a four-hour flight "window" for drone operation. The signed flight plan review must also be presented to the Sunriver Owners Association for final approval.
- Copies of the applications will be retained by SROA, airport management and Sunriver Police.
Sunriver regulations permit a fine up to $2,500 for unauthorized drone landings/takeoffs.
The FAA may assess civil penalties up to $27,500 for FAA operation violations and criminal penalties of up to $250,000 for fraudulent disregard of FAA regulations.
