Proper Side-Yard Recycling
If you are unsure whether an item is recyclable or not – play it safe and put it in the trash. Just because an item displays the recycling symbol does not mean it is recyclable in Deschutes County!
All recyclable items (with the exception of larger cardboard boxes) need to fit completely within the can and the lid secured to keep wild animals out (especially raccoons and ravens).
Cardboard that does not fit in the recycle can can be broken down flat and neatly stacked on top of or next to the recycle can and it will be picked up.
Those with a vacation rental will want to educate their guests on what is recyclable here. If the recycling can is found contaminated with household trash or other materials you will be subject to additional trash charges.
What can I do if my trash enclosure is too small?
If your home’s current trash enclosure is not large enough to accommodate a trash can, recycling can and glass bin you may need to modify/enlarge the existing trash enclosure to accommodate the cans.
SROA will allow expansion of an existing trash enclosure in the same design and in conformance with the SROA Design Manual without an application/review fee.
Please contact SROA's Community Development staff for assistance at designinfo@srowners.org or 541-593-6645.
